ILZE MAZPANE
“I think performance artists are a messenger from the future, that’s why my artistic practice creates with a sensitivity towards other people, the environment and myself.”

The the artistic strategy of her work comes from the love of process, the idea of authenticity, transformation and collective thought. She finds these phenomena in both performance art and training. Her performance art practice is a meeting between philosophical ideas, playful audience interaction and deep interest in creating transformative experiences. “I love to play, create rules on the spot and dive into the exploration of big questions.”

Ilze Mazpane about her time in Rejmyre: “A MONTH-LONG PERFORMANCE ‘THE NEXT LIFE’ This is a long-term performance in which I gave the broken glass (souls) that have been abandoned in a pile behind Remyre’s glass factory a second chance at life and function. Every day for a whole month I searched produced a shard of glass and planted a seed in it. Now the shards are flower pots that are home to life.”

Ilze is a performance artist from Riga, Latvia, and creates long-lasting performances that are site-specific, characterized by poetry, passion for structure and minimal expression.
