MATTIAS ÅKESSON  Arbetslinjen (The line on labour)

About Mattias Åkesson’s work during the Performing Labour ensemble residency, from the Perforing Labour product catalouge:

“Arbetslinjen is a Swedish political policy slogan, in popular use since the mid-2000s. The policy of Arbetslinjen is often described as work being a priority over all other form of social welfare. It is a socio-political effort to get the unemployed into the labour force at all costs; doing any kind of work. Labour as form instead of content.

Engraved text on Reijmyre coffee glass: Materializes the mantra that was brought to life by the conservative government in the mid-2000s. Works well as a glass for coffee when you take a break, while reminding you that you have to work. Helps you see yourself as a cog in a larger economy, where the important thing is that you work, not what you do.”
