At Reijmyre Glassworks, 2019
Hasti Radpour’s work is part of the three-year long artistic research project “DeTox – Clean it up!”, in which Rejmyre Art Lab invited a group of artists to work based on the situation of 200 years of pollution behind Reijmyre Glassworks. The work is located at the glassworks.
"My work consists of an oversized slingshot, ready to launch a large glass lump. The inspiration for the piece came while listening to Sara Erjeby, one of the researchers who conducted soil tests and a preliminary study of the pollution in Rejmyre. She spoke about different solutions for managing the contaminated soil. One of them was to send the waste to another location where it could be properly handled. This solution raised questions and reflections for me. Is it the case that if we send it elsewhere, it is no longer our responsibility? Does the burden lift from our shoulders? Does it feel better when it is far away from us? Then I thought of this phrase: Out of sight, out of mind!"
Hasti Radpour is an artist based in Linköping, educated at the University of Tehran’s Art Academy and Linköping University. A characteristic of Hasti’s art is a play with perspective and proportion, which challenges and provokes questions.
