FRIDA FJÄLLMANKonsthallen Engelska Magasinet, Rejmyre
June 6–August 15, 2021

Opening June 6 at 2 PM
Opening times: Wednsday to Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM

Frida Fjellman is one of Sweden’s most prominent glass artists. Her experimental, inviting, and at the same time challenging works have been shown all over the world. This summer she is exhibiting in Rejmyre, where visitors will have the chance to experience some of her most spectacular artworks installed in the exhibition hall Engelska Magasinet.

The exhibition presents a series of works that playfully develop the idea of a traditional chandelier. In these, Frida has experimented with color, form, and transparency to create striking crystal clusters that balance on the edge between the vulgar and the poetically delicate. Another work consists of a bolt of blue neon lightning exploding over a large black pool made of glass. A feast for the eyes, inviting for audiences of all ages, yet also carrying a note of gravity and connection to a darker dimension.

Frida Fjellman (b. 1972) was educated at Konstfack, Department of Ceramics & Glass. Her works have been exhibited at the Nationalmuseum and Millesgården in Stockholm, Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, Design Miami, Art Basel, and Swedish Style Tokyo, and are represented in countless collections around the world.

Engelska Magasinet is a beautiful old warehouse building in Rejmyre that once stored goods from the glassworks awaiting export. Its historic interior forms an intriguing contrast to Frida’s experimental works, which illuminate the darkened space.

Since 2020, Rejmyre Art Lab has organized the annual summer exhibitions at Engelska Magasinet, with the ambition to introduce contemporary craft both as a contrast to and as a continuation of the craft tradition for which Rejmyre is renowned. The exhibition program is part of Rejmyre Art Lab’s broader activities, which also include thematic artistic research projects, artist-in-residence programs, site-specific installations, seminars, workshops, and programs for children and youth.

The exhibition program is supported by the Swedish Arts Council, Region Östergötland, and Finspång Municipality.
