Rejmyre Art Lab and Östergötland’s Museum present the women-only glass collective BOOM! in a retrospective exhibition. Several of BOOM!’s members have previously participated in Rejmyre Art Lab projects, and now return as a collective to offer new perspectives on what glass art is and can be in contemporary society.
This summer’s exhibition in Konsthallen Engelska Magasinet presents a wide range of BOOM!’s work from their first five years as a group, in a mix of video, installation, text, and sound. The title Fantastiska Femman (Fantastic Five) refers to BOOM!’s fifth year as a collective, to the number of members, and to FEM as in FEMinist.
BOOM! was founded in 2015 out of a need to create new platforms for Swedish glass – on equal terms. Since then, they have created various kinds of discussion forums, staged exhibitions and public performances, published two books, built a mobile glass studio, and held a series of workshops for children and young people, who were given the opportunity to try glassblowing.
We are delighted to welcome BOOM! to Rejmyre this summer to showcase their work in a major summer exhibition. In late July, BOOM! will also take part in a short production residency at Rejmyre Art Lab, engaging with our thematic research questions. The results of that work will also form part of the exhibition in Engelska Magasinet.
