ANNA BERGLIND  Huldran och Hygget
Reijmyre Glass Factory, 2017–2018

In the project Huldran och Hygget, we turn our attention to the forest – or rather, to the place where a forest once stood.

The process began with a workshop in which participants were invited to take part in conversations at a clear-cut site near Rejmyre. The results are now presented as an installation consisting of video, glass, and wood, along with a sound work, integrated into the glass factory. The forest enters the glassworks and projects its traces through glass and light. Rikard Vilhelm Lindell contributes a specially composed sound piece featuring personal stories about the significance of the forest and reflections on a landscape that has been clear-cut in our time.

In a satellite image of Sweden taken during the dark hours of the night, the lights of a number of illuminated cities are visible, while the rest of the country appears dark. But what would happen if we swapped darkness and light? If we moved some of the countryside’s darkness into the most brightly lit places, and some of the city’s light out into the rural landscape?

Anna Berglind works as a cultural producer and artist, focusing on public space design and exhibition practices, and she also teaches at the Department of Culture, Society, and Media Design at Linköping University. Light and darkness are central to her artistic practice. She also explores how inviting active participation in artworks can open up new public encounters beyond traditional art arenas. Her driving force is to create situations that inspire a reconnection between the senses and the intellect—moments that raise questions about the relationship between body and space, self-perception, social codes, and interaction.

The installation is on view from 2 December 2017 to 11 February 2018.
